Frameless mirrors without lighting

A plain mirror does one thing very well: it gives a room a second window. With no frame and no lighting, nothing competes with the reflection, and the mirror reads as part of the wall rather than as an object hung on it. This is the counterpart to our LED mirrors – same glass, same workshop, no electronics.

Where a plain mirror works best

In a hall, opposite or beside a window, where it borrows daylight from the room it faces and passes it on. Over a fireplace, where a wide, low mirror follows the proportion of the chimney breast. Along a landing or a narrow corridor, where a tall mirror on the long wall makes the space read as wider. In a bathroom it works too, as long as there is already a light above or beside the mirror – if there is not, an LED mirror will serve you better.

Edges and finishes

We recommend a ground and polished edge, which is smooth to the touch and safe to handle – you pick the edge finish in the configurator, so check it before you order. On a rectangle or a square you can add a bevel of 15 or 20 mm, a sloping ground band around the rim that catches the light and reads a little like a frame – see bevelled mirrors. If the mirror will hang somewhere exposed, in a hall or a child\'s room, add safety film: it holds the glass together if it is ever broken.

Shapes and sizes

Choose a finished shape from round, rectangular, arch or irregular mirrors, or set your own dimensions in the cut-to-size configurator – rectangles and free shapes from 10 to 200 cm, circles from 13 to 150 cm, to the millimetre. An anodised aluminium frame is available on rectangles and circles in five finishes if you decide you want a border after all.

Hanging a mirror with no frame to grip

A frameless mirror is fixed from behind, so nothing shows from the front. On a solid wall that means plugs rated for the weight at several points; on plasterboard, heavy-duty cavity fixings or, better, screws into the studs. Mirror mounting tape and adhesive are available as add-ons for smaller pieces, but anything large or heavy should be mechanically fixed rather than stuck. Leave the protective film on until the mirror is on the wall.
