Round wall mirrors

Almost everything in a room is a rectangle – doors, windows, tiles, furniture. A circle is the one shape that reliably breaks that up, which is why a round mirror works in so many places a rectangular one would look heavy.

What diameter to choose

Over a piece of furniture, size the circle to the furniture: 70 to 90 per cent of the width of a vanity unit, console or sideboard. That puts most bathroom circles between 45 and 70 cm and most hall circles between 60 and 90 cm. On a bare wall the mirror can be larger – a 100 to 120 cm circle reads as a feature rather than an accessory. We make round mirrors from Ø 40 to 150 cm with LED lighting, in 5 cm steps, and from Ø 13 to 150 cm without lighting, to the millimetre.

Where round mirrors work

Above a basin, where round mirrors with LED lighting light the face evenly from every side. In a hall, above a console table, where a circle is the friendliest shape to meet at the door. Over a fireplace in a living or sitting room, where a circle balances the rectangle of the chimney breast. A large circle also suits the wall at the top of the stairs, where there is height but no furniture to relate to.

Frameless, framed or tinted

As standard the mirror is frameless with a ground and polished edge. An anodised brushed aluminium frame is available in five finishes – matt black, matt grey, champagne gold, warm gold and silver – and a black or gold rim is the usual way to tie a round mirror to the fittings in a room. In tinted glass, bronze suits warm timber and brass, while grey suits a cooler scheme.

Hanging a round mirror

Centre it on the furniture below rather than on the wall, and leave 15 to 25 cm between the two. On a bare wall, put the centre of the glass at eye level, around 150 to 160 cm from the floor. Fix at several points into something solid; on plasterboard use heavy-duty cavity fixings or screw into the studs.
