Mirrors for the bedroom

A bedroom mirror is mostly a dressing mirror, so the first question is whether you can see all of yourself in it. The second is where to put it so that it is useful in the morning without being the first thing you see at night.

Getting the full-length part right

Choose a mirror 140 to 170 cm tall and hang it with the bottom edge 30 to 40 cm above the floor. In theory a mirror half your height shows you head to toe, but that assumes you stand at the correct distance and that everyone using it is the same height – the extra height is what makes it comfortable in practice. All our mirrors are wall-mounted, which is an advantage in a bedroom: nothing stands on the floor to be knocked or walked around.

Where to hang it

Beside the wardrobe is the obvious place, because that is where you get dressed. Opposite a window is the brightest place, and the light is better for judging colour. On the wall behind or beside the bed a mirror is a decorative choice rather than a practical one – if you want it there, a smaller irregular or arch shape above a chest of drawers usually sits better than a large rectangle facing the bed.

Light for getting ready

If the bedroom is where you do your make-up, a mirror with LED lighting is worth the extra: choose neutral or cool white with CRI 90+, which is Power LED (COB) or Philips on our range. Warm white is pleasant in a bedroom but will mislead you on colour. A Bluetooth speaker and a digital clock are available as add-ons on lit mirrors.

Shape and size

A tall rectangle is the practical answer, a circle above a chest of drawers the decorative one, and a large mirror the right move in a small bedroom where you want the room to feel wider. Over furniture, keep to 70 to 90 per cent of its width. For an exact size, the cut-to-size configurator works to the millimetre.
